Every Friday, Lisa-Jo Baker, founder of “Five Minute Friday,” broadcasts a writing prompt, challenging writers to writer for five minutes only. In her words, “It’s not a perfect post, not a profound post, just five minutes of focused writing. “
This is a great writing exercise even if you’re not blogging your treasures (memories). Your spontaneous thoughts on a given subject can reveal your personality, daily life, beliefs, etc. If you are blogging, I encourage you to join in! If you want to connect on Twitter, use the hashtag #FiveMinuteFriday.
Today’s Prompt: Home
Though I’ve lived as long in my current house as the one I grew up in, my childhood home hasn’t been replaced. It’s in another state, fourteen hours away, and houses strangers. The neighboring houses are now likewise inhabited by strangers. It’s painful to drive by it; the reality of loss re-opens the holes in my heart.
But that house is still my home, just as my current home is, because it is still the setting of my memories. It’s still the place where I became me. It’s still the place in which I wander in my dreams. It’s part of me.
