Have strong shoulders, kleenex in their purses, and snarky jokes

Emergency contacts—actual family is too far away
Pseudo aunts and uncles to my kids, and my dog.
Source of love, laughter, and comfort
Soccer Moms and Friendsand the occasional good pass
Cheerleaders or doubters, depending on what’s needed
Consultants—fashion, parenting, food prep, relationships, writing, whatever is needed

  1. As someone who lives far away from family (and has two young kids) I get this (and I love this post). This part especially, “Tear moppers, prayer warriors, food bringers”
